1 officer dead with another in critically condition as Houston PD helicopter crashes into apartment complex
In the early hours of today about 2:04 a.m a Houston police officer is died and the other remains in critical condition after the two were transported to a hospital after one of the department’s helicopters crashed into an apartment complex.
The helicopter pilot is still in surgery, but was “very banged up. The pilot and co-pilot were trapped in the wreckage for an extended period of time. (Personnel) literally had to cut them out,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo told reporters
He went further to say
“We’ve lost one of our own, and we know that we don’t leave no stone unturned as part of our investigation to the cause or the factor in this crash”
We know that law enforcement aircraft gets shot at on a regular basis, not just with live fire but they also get shot at, targeted with lasers. And so we will also make that part of our investigation,” Acevedo said.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said at a news conference at the Texas Medical Center.“This is one of those mornings, I ask for the city of Houston to continue to lift up both families, especially lift up the family of the police officer that has died… At the same time, lift up the entire HPD family.”
